Issue #5

Hey everyone, Tom here from Adocasts! First, thank you for your patience and understanding regarding the lack of content in April, May, and some of June. Remember to take care of your mental and physical health.

Though we're just getting back into the swing of things, we do have some things to wrap up for June!

Adocasts 3.0

Along with my return, Adocasts v3 was been released. We're now running AdonisJS with Unpoly and Alpine. This allows us to render everything with EdgeJS, but still get the SPA treatment when traversing from page to page.

Thanks to this, we've been able to incorporate a floating mini-player that will follow you around the site if you leave a lesson page with the video playing.

We've made a ton of little improvements as well, but some of the more notable things include:

• We now ask that you verify your email address (unless you sign up with a social provider)
• We're restricting engagement (comments, requests, etc) to authenticated users
• Every user now has a progression page where you can jump back into your in-progress series and lessons
• You can now submit lesson requests directly on the site

And, a couple of things coming soon:

• We'll soon have user profiles, so you can share a bit more about yourself if you wish. You can already edit some of your profile details in your settings.
• We'll soon have a publicly available content schedule so you can track the projected release dates for planned lessons

In June, we added our fourth lesson to the AdonisJS In 15 series. In this lesson, we covered how to set up AdonisJS 5 and NuxtJS 3 so that session authentication works flawlessly

​AdonisJS Quick Tip​

We also added our seventeenth installment in our AdonisJS Quick Tip series. This lesson served as a follow-up to our "Redirect Back After Login" quick tip lesson. It covers how to gracefully handle an expired auth session.

July Outlook

We're beginning to plan two new series that'll be starting soon on Adocasts. I'm excited to get them rolling. One will be on setting up a dynamic permissions system. The other will focus on building an app with Unpoly.

We'll be looking at improving how we prep, record, and release series like these as well. I liked the flow we used with our HTMX + Adonis series, but am not sure how well it'd work with larger series.
