Let's Learn AdonisJS 6 - Done! What's Next?

Hi Reader, Tom from Adocasts here, I hope you're doing well. Since late January, we've been super busy releasing lessons for our Let's Learn AdonisJS 6 series.

Well, coming in at one hundred thirteen lessons long, our Let’s Learn AdonisJS 6 series is now complete. Moreover, all lessons are now available for free on both YouTube and the Adocasts site.

So, What’s Next?

We’ve been hard at work building the application we’ll be creating in our next big series. In this series, we’ll be learning how to use the AdonisJS InertiaJS adapter. For our Inertia app, we’ll be using Vue 3, Server-Side Rendering (SSR), TypeScript, and Shadcn-Vue.

This series is still about a couple of weeks away from beginning. Through this series, we’ll be building a fun application called PlotMyCourse. We’ve almost got the application completed, then we just need to plot out the series’ lessons.

With this application, users will be able to create one or more organizations. Each organization contains its own difficulties, statuses, and access levels so they can be tailor-made to the org’s specific needs. They’ll even be able to drag-and-drop to specify which order they want these items to be displayed in.

Users can then create courses within an organization that contain modules and lessons.

• The course, modules, and lessons can all have a status assigned to them.
• The source and lessons can have an access level assigned
• And, the course contains the difficulty

As a friendly heads up, this course will be Adocasts Plus exclusive. I’d love to have it be free to all, but we’ve gotta pay the bills. We will have some free lessons at the beginning of this series as a preview and to get everyone going, though.

Why This Application?

I’ve been looking for a better way to prioritize and plan series and lessons for Adocasts. Up til now, I’ve used Notion, which has done a fine job and is certainly feature-rich. However, it’s a bit cumbersome, difficult to manage, and easy to mess up due to all these features.

I’m sure I could spend time getting Notion set up just right for my use case, but I saw a great opportunity here for something fun we could build together! My plans for this project also don’t stop at our InertiaJS series, because I also plan on following this series up with another where we add an API to PlotMyCourse, allowing us to access our course data inside any of our applications (cough the Adocasts site).

It goes a little deeper too! We’ll then follow the API series up by learning how we can add WYSIWYG text editor functionality so that we can put notes, or whatever, on specific lessons. This will also cover how we can add syntax highlighting as well.

So, if all goes well, we’ll be expanding on this one application throughout three different series to get one detailed and complete application.

At present, I only have the InertiaJS portion of this application near completion. As I begin to build out the other portions, we may find additional opportunities to learn here as well!
